KARACHI – Fears of nationwide petrol and diesel shortage are mounting as oil marketing companies have reportedly started restricting fuel supplies to petrol pumps, raising concerns over potential disruptions across Pakistan.
The supply squeeze comes as global crude oil prices continue to climb following the escalating U.S.–Iran conflict, with its impact now being felt in Pakistan’s petroleum sector.
Sindh Petroleum Dealers Association President Ameer Khan said oil marketing companies have imposed allocation limits on fuel supplies, leaving petrol pumps with significantly reduced deliveries. Pakistan Petroleum Dealers Association Vice Chairman Tariq Hassan also warned that the cut in supplies could trigger shortages of petroleum products across the country if the situation persists.
Oil marketing companies however rejected claims of impending crisis, saying petrol pumps are receiving supplies based on their average monthly sales and that no dealer is being provided fuel beyond their normal allocation.
Such concerns often surface whenever international oil prices rise, claiming some dealers increase pressure by warning of shortages. They also noted that when a reduction in domestic fuel prices is expected, dealers typically scale back their purchases in anticipation of buying at lower rates.
With global oil markets remaining volatile and domestic supplies under close watch, concerns are growing that motorists across Pakistan could face fuel shortages if the situation worsens.
