The higher reaches of the Kashmir valley on Friday morning received a fresh spell of snowfall, while the plains received rains, leading to a significant drop in the maximum temperature.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the higher reaches of the valley, including Bandipora district’s Razdan top, Machil, Pir Ki Gali Keran, Razdan Pass, Zojjila Pass, Sinthan Top, Sonamarg and Gulmarg experienced snowfall, while plains, including Srinagar district, saw heavy downpour.
Meanwhile, rains lashed other parts of the Kashmir valley, resulting in considerable dip in the maximum temperature.
The Meteorological Department has predicted gradual decrease in precipitation from late afternoon onwards. “Looking ahead, the weather forecast for the 11th to 17th indicates mainly dry conditions and warmer days,” the official said.
A meteorological department official said that in the last 24 hours till Friday morning, Srinagar received 17.5mm of rain, Qazigund 12.0mm, Pahalgam 6.4mm, Kupwara 29.8, Kokernag 5.8mm, Gulmarg 22.2mm (also 10.4 cm of snow), Jammu 42.0mm, Banihal 21.4mm, Batote 17.2mm, Bhaderwah 3.6mm, Katra 33.4mm, and Kathua 0.0mm.—KMS
