Incidents of terrorism targeting security forces, police and civilians are on the rise, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, the provinces bordering Taliban controlled Afghanistan. Pakistan has raised the issue with the Taliban and at international forums about the use of Afghan soil for attacks in the country.
Last year, at least 2,331 people, including personnel of law enforcement agencies and civilians, lost their lives in various terrorist attacks carried out from Afghan soil in different areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
