ISLAMABAD – The flour prices recorded a significant increase across the country during the past week, with the cost of a 20kg bag rising by up to Rs200 in multiple cities, the data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics revealed.
The continued rise in flour prices, a staple food item, is adding to inflationary pressures and increasing the financial burden on households nationwide.
Karachi continued to rank as the most expensive city, where a 20kg flour bag is being sold for as high as Rs2,500.
In comparison, Lahore offered the lowest rate, with prices hovering around Rs1,810 per bag.
The steepest weekly hikes were witnessed in Hyderabad and Larkana, where prices surged by Rs200 per bag. Sargodha followed with an increase of Rs190, while Sukkur recorded a rise of Rs160. In Multan, prices climbed by Rs133.33, whereas Karachi and Khuzdar saw increases of up to Rs100.
Other cities also experienced notable hikes, with flour prices increasing by Rs90 in Quetta, Rs67 in Islamabad, Rs66 in Gujranwala, and Rs40 in Rawalpindi, reflecting a broad-based rise in essential food costs.
According to the official figures, flour prices remained high in several cities, including Rs2,450 in Quetta, Rs2,440 in Hyderabad, Rs2,373 in Islamabad, and Rs2,350 in Peshawar.
In Bannu and Khuzdar, the price of a 20kg bag stood at around Rs2,300.
Meanwhile, Rawalpindi recorded prices at Rs2,347, Faisalabad at Rs2,250, and Sukkur and Larkana at Rs2,200. Gujranwala, Multan, and Sialkot reported rates of Rs2,133, while Bahawalpur and Sargodha stood at Rs2,067 and Rs2,000, respectively.
