ISLAMABAD – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) on Friday issued Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF)/flash flood alert for Gilgit-Batistan and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from July 06 to July 08, 2024.

Significant rains are expected in upper parts of Pakistan on Friday and the next 2-3 days. Moreover, higher than normal temperatures are expected till mid-July which will likely accelerate snow melting.

Significant rains coupled with snowmelt have increased possibilities of GLOF/flash floods, landslides, and rise in river stream flows in Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) and upper parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) from July 06 to July 08.

The district administration, concerned line departments, and local communities have been advised to remain vigilant during the period.

Nearly normal rains, warmer nights expected in Pakistan during July 2024
