BANNU – At least five civilians were killed and 13 others injured after a suicide car bomb attack at the Domel Police Station in Bannu.
The deceased included four members of a family – a man, his wife and two children.
Police said an explosives-laden car was rammed into the rear side of the police station, triggering a huge blast followed by a gun battle between assailants and policemen.
A large section of the police station collapsed in the powerful blast as it was heard miles away, according to reports.
The blast caused extensive destruction in surrounding residential areas, leading to the collapse of several homes and leaving numerous people trapped under the rubble.
Rescue 1122 teams quickly transported the injured to nearby hospitals, where some are reported to be in critical condition.
District Emergency Officer Bakhtullah Wazir confirmed that five people lost their lives in the incident, while 13 others, including a police officer, were hospitalized. He added that search and rescue efforts are ongoing and will continue until the area is completely cleared.
Despite continuous rainfall complicating operations, Rescue 1122 teams promptly reached the site. Once the firing ceased, emergency personnel launched a full-scale operation to clear debris and rescue trapped individuals.
Security forces have secured the site and are carrying out a clearance operation, while authorities continue to assess the full extent of casualties and property damage.
