LAHORE – A fire broke out in the gynaecology ward of General Hospital in Punjab capital city of Lahore days after the similar incident took place in Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) in Islamabad.
Following the incident, rescue teams reached the scene and launch an immediate evacuation and firefighting operation.
According to rescue officials, more than 70 people were safely evacuated from the gynaecology ward during the incident. Rescue personnel managed to bring the fire under control before it could spread further.
Officials said the fire originated in the exhaust system. The timely response by rescue teams prevented the flames from spreading to other areas of the hospital.
No casualties were reported in the incident. However, a security guard was affected by smoke and was shifted to the emergency ward for medical treatment.
Further investigation is underway to determine the cause of the fire.
In August, 14 infants were killed after a fire erupted in a nursery at the PIMS hospital. An initial inquire report revealed that the incident took place due to negligence of the administration.
Following the deadly fire incident, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif removed the health secretary and ordered an high-level probe.
