The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested four individuals allegedly involved in illegally preparing forged identity documents for Afghan nationals.
According to the officials, those arrested include Inam-ul-Haq, an Assistant Director at the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA); Fayyaz Ahmed, a Deputy Assistant Director at NADRA; Junaid Ahmed, a NADRA watchman; and Muhammad Umar Shah, a private agent.
Karachi Police had earlier registered a missing person case regarding Fayyaz Ahmed on the complaint of his father, Sohail Sangi. According to the FIR, Fayyaz Ahmed had been missing since the evening of July 20, and his father had expressed suspicion that unknown individuals had abducted him.
According to the media reports, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects were involved in issuing fake identity documents to Afghan nationals, tampering with official records, and facilitating other illegal activities.
The agency said initial evidence collected during the investigation also indicated that the organised network may have links to certain terrorist elements. It added that a comprehensive investigation is underway to determine the nature and extent of those connections.
According to the FIA, authorities seized important records, digital material, and other evidence during the operation, while the scope of the investigation has been expanded.
The agency said further investigations are expected to lead to additional revelations and arrests. It pledged that all facilitators and key members of the network would be brought to justice in accordance with the law.
