ISLAMABAD – A man posing as an officer of the National Assembly Secretariat has been arrested after allegedly using forged documents, including a fake appointment letter bearing fabricated signatures of the National Assembly Speaker.
A spokesperson for the National Assembly Secretariat said that suspect, identified as Abdul Wajid, a resident of Ghotki, falsely claimed to be an employee of the National Assembly Secretariat. He allegedly presented himself as a Grade-17 officer and used the fake identity to obtain unlawful privileges and official protocol.
The spokesperson said the suspect was arrested by the Director General of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) following directions from the National Assembly. Authorities recovered a forged appointment letter purportedly issued by the National Assembly Secretariat, which also carried fake signatures of the Speaker.
The case came to light after public complaints and reports circulating on social media prompted the Speaker to order immediate action, the spokesperson added.
The National Assembly Secretariat clarified that Abdul Wajid has never been employed by the institution and that there is no record of his appointment.
The spokesperson emphasized that forging official documents or falsely claiming association with the Speaker, the National Assembly, or any government office constitutes a serious criminal offence.
The public has been urged to remain vigilant against such fraudsters and to verify the authenticity of any documents claiming to have been issued by the National Assembly Secretariat before relying on them.
