ISLAMABAD – Punjab Bar Council suspended license of Mian Ali Ashfaq, the high-profile lawyer advocating former DG ISI General Faiz Hameed, for violating professional conduct during a court appearance at Karachi City Court.
Executive Committee of Punjab Bar Council now referred his case to the Disciplinary Committee for a possible permanent cancellation of his license. According to Bar Council, action was taken after video circulating on social media revealed that Mian Ali Ashfaq had committed professional misconduct by appearing in court during a judicial strike, despite a complete ban on court proceedings.
The statement highlighted that his appearance in court accompanied by private security personnel was a clear violation of rules. The lawyer faced strong objections for making statements against legal community, actions that reportedly damaged unity and dignity within the bar, which the Council deemed unacceptable professional behavior.
Punjab Bar Council further clarified that his actions violated Sections 134 and 175-A of Pakistan Legal Practitioners and Bar Councils Rules 1976, leading Executive Committee to unanimously decide on the immediate suspension of his license.
The controversy erupted when Mian Ali Ashfaq appeared two days ago in Karachi City Court in a high-profile case against famous TikToker Rajab Butt. Reports claim that during this appearance, lawyers physically assaulted Rajab Butt, sparking outrage on social media and fueling the Bar Council’s disciplinary action.
With his license now under suspension and a permanent revocation case pending, this incident thrown Pakistan’s legal community into turmoil, raising questions about professional ethics, the conduct of lawyers during court strikes, and the influence of high-profile clients in sensitive cases.
