Factory gas leakage sparks mass evacuation in Korangi

At least three citizens including a minor girl went unconscious after inhaling hazardous ammonia gas which leaked from a cylinder in an ice factory situated in the Zaman Town area of Korangi Karachi.The authorities evacuated the residents from the surrounding area, while they sealed the factory and another one adjacent to it.

The affected including a 70-years old woman were moved to hospital.Police and Reuse workers arrived at the scene to carry out relief efforts.Senior Superintendent of Police Korangi Tariq Nawaz said that a minor girl fell sick after inhaling the hazardous gas and was moved to the hospital.

The gas leakage has been stopped and police have been deployed to control the situation after furious area residents gathered around the factory, he added.The residents claimed that around half the area was affected by inhaling the hazardous gas.
