On the eve of World Epilepsy Day, Executive Director of the Punjab Institute of Neuro Sciences Prof Dr Khalid Mahmood has said in his message that epilepsy patients should prioritise regular treatment rather than adopting social tactics. He said that modern research on this disease has emerged, in light of which the treatment has become quite easy of epilepsy.
An awareness walk was also organised under the leadership of PINS ED. Speaking on the occasion, Prof Dr Khalid Mehmood said that the epilepsy was curable and it was possible to recover but the need was to be diagnosed on time.
Instead of falling into epilepsy, patients should prefer a therapeutic treatment so that steps can be taken to build a healthy society. Media, civil society, religious scholars and social organisations should also be raised for public awareness in this regard. They have to play their role to aware common man about different steps of disease of epilepsy. Prof Ahsan Noman, Prof Ather Javed, Prof M Naeem Qasoori, Dr Mohsin Zaheer and others participated in the seminar.
They said that there was no interruption of ghosting or sorcery in the epilepsy. This was a debilitating disease which can be cured in the 21st century with the help of modern operation and medicine and the patient can live a normal life.
Epilepsy was not a contagious disease, they said. In addition to jerking seizures, there were many other types of epilepsy in which the patient suffers severe seizures, hands get wet and urine starts flowing. Children also have mild tremors in the hands or feet.
He said that during the tour of the epileptic patient the brow of the crotch should be hung and that such a patient should be prevented from getting injured and should not be delayed from going to the hospital if the duration of the visit is more than 3 minutes.
They said that the epileptic patient should immediately consult an authorised doctor or neuro-physician, conduct regular blood tests, EEG, EMG and MRI and use regular medication. PINS MS Dr Ali Rizzaq, Dr Shahid Mukhtar and Dr Syed Arslan Haider were also present on the occasion. On the walk from the Punjab Institute of Neuro Sciences to the Admin Block of LGH, doctors, nurses and paramedical staff and other participants raised various placards and banners for awareness of epilepsy. And the balloons were also released into the air.
