ISLAMABAD – The electricity tariff is likely to go up by Rs1.27 per unit under the monthly Fuel Cost Adjustment (FCA) for April 2025.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) filed a petition with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking an increase in electricity prices by Rs1.27 per unit under the monthly fuel cost adjustment for April 2025.
NEPRA will conduct a hearing on the request on May 29, after which a decision will be made.
In the submitted data, the CPPA stated that a total of 10.513 billion units of electricity were generated nationwide in April, while 10.196 billion units were supplied to distribution companies.
The average cost of electricity generation during April was reported at Rs. 8.94 per unit, compared to the reference cost of Rs. 7.68 per unit—leading to a cost difference that prompted the tariff adjustment request.
The breakdown of power generation sources for April is: 21.94% from hydropower, 14.51% from local coal, 10.02% from imported coal, 0.97% from furnace oil, 8.01% from domestic natural gas, 20.52% from imported LNG, 17.91% from nuclear energy.
If approved, the proposed increase will affect electricity consumers in the upcoming billing cycles, excluding lifeline and K-Electric customers.
