Pakistan’s top moon sighting body Ruet-e-Hilal Committee announced that moon for the month of Zilhaj was not sighted in Pakistan, confirming that Eidul Azha will be observed on June 7.

Due to mostly cloudy weather, no credible moon sighting reports were received. The committee decided that Zilhaj 1, 1446 AH will begin on May 29. Meetings were held simultaneously in Islamabad and provincial capitals to verify moon sighting testimonies.

The session was chaired by Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, Chairman of the Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee. The official announcement regarding the sighting — or non-sighting — of the moon will be made following the conclusion of the meeting. Zonal and district Ruet-e-Hilal Committees are also convening at designated locations across the country to collect and report evidence of moon sighting from different regions.

Pakistanis are eagerly awaiting arrival of Eid-ul-Adha, one of the two sacred Islamic festivals that commemorates Prophet Ibrahim’s act of devotion. The exact date of the festival depends on the sighting of the moon that marks the start of Zil Hajj, the final month of the Islamic calendar.

In Saudi Arabia, if the moon is spotted today, Eid will be observed on Friday, June 6. If not, the lunar month will end on May 28, shifting Eid to Saturday, June 7. This would align the Saudi celebration with Pakistan’s expected date and place Eid in India on June 8.

In UAE, astronomical forecasts suggest the crescent moon will be visible on May 27, making May 28 the first day of Dhul Hijjah. If confirmed, Eid-ul-Adha will fall on Friday, June 6, with a four-day holiday from Thursday to Sunday.

While forecasts suggest Eid-ul-Adha 2025 will be observed in Pakistan on June 7, the final confirmation depends on the official moon sighting. People across the country are preparing for the festivities, awaiting an official announcement from religious authorities.

What is Eid ul Adha

Eid ul-Adha commemorates Hazrat Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice son Hazrat Ismail in obedience to God. Before sacrifice could take place, Allah provided sheep as substitute.

The festival occurs on the 10th day of Dhul-Hijjah, the final month of the Islamic lunar calendar, and aligns with the Hajj pilgrimage in Mecca. Muslims who are financially able sacrifice an animal such as a sheep, goat, or cow, and the meat is divided into three parts: for the family, relatives/friends, and the poor.

Bakra Eid start with special congregational prayer followed by feasting, giving to charity, and community gatherings. It emphasizes faith, obedience, generosity, and care for the needy.

When is Eid ul Azha 2025 in Pakistan as the Ruet body meets on May 27?
