Roads between twin cities completely sealed off
The district administrations of Islamabad and Rawalpindi have announced closure of all educational institutions on Monday (today), citing the current political climate as the reason for the decision.
According to a spokesperson of Islamabad’s district administration, all schools and colleges in the federal capital will remain closed. Later a notification was also issued to this effect.
The announcement was confirmed by Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon on the social media platform X where he stated that the decision was taken “in view of the prevailing political situation.”
The Islamabad Private Schools Association announced the closure of schools, citing the current situation as the reason for this decision.
The Rawalpindi district government has also announced closure of the schools and educational institutions for Monday Nov 25 (today).
This closure will apply to all educational institutions across the twin cities to ensure the safety of students and staff amid the ongoing PTI protest.
Meanwhile, the police and law-enforcement agencies earlier on Sunday completely sealed the twin cities, Rawalpindi and Islamabad in response to the Pakistan PTI protest in Islamabad. Containers have been placed on major routes, including Faizabad Flyover, with heavy police deployment in the area.
Key roads such as Murree Road, Motorway, Rawat, T-Chowk, Taxila, Margalla, and Mandrah have been blocked, along with major highways like Murree Expressway, Hazara Expressway, and connecting roads from Punjab.
Over 6,000 police personnel have been deployed across Rawalpindi, with security arrangements tightened for PTI protest. The police conducted raids throughout the night to detain PTI workers, resulting in the arrest of over 170 activists from various areas. Prisoner transport buses have been brought into the city to manage detainees. Emergency measures have been implemented in hospitals, and rescue agencies have been put on high alert. Additionally, mobile internet services have been suspended in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, and Attock to prevent the spread of PTI protest-related information. The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protest has paralyzed normal life in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. The government has also put its share in bringing the normal life to a halt by completely sealing the entry and exit points of the twin cities, Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
