ISLAMABAD – Consumers in Pakistan are paying significant amount in wake of levies, taxes and various margins on per litre petrol and diesel prices adding significantly to the final retail prices, according to reports.
The documents showed that the actual cost of one litre of petrol stands at Rs234.73, while its current retail price is Rs367.75 per litre. This represents a difference of Rs133.02 per litre between the underlying cost and the price paid by consumers.
For high-speed diesel, the difference between the reported cost and retail price stands at Rs122.55 per litre. The documents indicate that Rs122.55 per litre is being collected through levies, taxes and margins on diesel.
In the case of petrol, Rs131.60 per litre is being collected through levies, taxes and margins, according to the documents.
Petrol and Diesel Prices Increase in Pakistan
Petroleum Division figures also show that fuel prices have continued to increase in recent days.
Petrol was priced at Rs345.87 per litre on September 7. Its price has since risen by Rs21.88 per litre to Rs367.75.
The price of high-speed diesel stood at Rs378.05 per litre on September 7 and has increased by Rs14.62 per litre to Rs392.67.
