ISLAMABAD — Pakistani authorities announced massive Rs32.63 per litre cut in High Speed Diesel (HSD) while increasing the price of petrol by Rs2.97 per litre, offering major relief to diesel consumers but putting more pressure on bikers.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Energy’s Petroleum Division on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, the new prices will take effect from August 20. The price of High Speed Diesel has plunged from Rs395.69 to Rs363.06 per litre, marking a reduction of Rs32.63.
At the same time, petrol has moved in the opposite direction, rising from Rs334.54 to Rs337.51 per litre, an increase of Rs2.97.

The sharp diesel cut follows negotiations between the government and petroleum refineries after a series of increases pushed diesel prices sharply higher.
Petroleum Minister Ali Pervez Malik said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had personally directed him to engage with the refineries and seek relief for consumers.
“We had two or three virtual meetings with the refineries,” Malik said, explaining that the refineries eventually agreed to the government’s request despite acknowledging the difficulties facing the industry.
The minister described the outcome as a “significant decrease” in diesel prices, saying the reduction would exceed Rs30 and reach around Rs32 per litre.
The move comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions in the Middle East, which have triggered a sharp rise in global petroleum prices and contributed to repeated increases in domestic diesel prices.
The government’s latest decision therefore creates a striking contrast in the fuel market: diesel prices have plunged by more than Rs32 per litre, while petrol has become slightly more expensive.
The revised ex-depot prices will remain effective from August 20, 2026, under the petroleum pricing mechanism reviewed by the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).
