At least 86% of small and medium-sized businesses (SMBs) experienced at least one cyber incident over the past year.
Kaspersky’s latest global survey has found that phishing, ransomware, malware and software vulnerabilities were among the most damaging threats.
At least 22% of respondents reported financial losses as a major consequence.
Customer data was the most frequently targeted information, followed by sensitive internal records, employee credentials and business strategies.
IT and IT security departments were the primary targets, accounting for 50% and 46% of major attacks respectively, while finance and accounting departments were targeted in 24% of cases.
Kaspersky said SMBs were increasingly adopting security monitoring, stronger third-party compliance measures, improved credential management and employee cybersecurity training to counter growing threats.
Cyber governance expert Asad Ur Rehman said Pakistani SMBs should treat cybersecurity as a business-resilience priority rather than merely an IT expense, given their exposure to customer and financial data.
