Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) conducted a major operation in Gulistan-e-Johar based on a tip-off from their investigation unit. The operation led to the arrest of FIA Inspector AtiqAlam, who has been identified as the mastermind behind the murder of Sufi Abdul Qayyum. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) CTD ChaudhrySafdar, AtiqAlam had been a fugitive for 18 months. Sufi Abdul Qayyum was targeted and killed on February 21 in Gulistan-e-Johar by two assailants, Ali Akbar and Tanveer, who have already been arrested.

The killing occurred after Fajr prayer when the mosque’s imam was returning home. AtiqAlam allegedly paid a sum of Rs 5 five lac for the murder, which was reportedly motivated by a dispute over a plot.
