KARACHI – Social media giant X, formerly Twitter, remains restricted in Pakistan from Sunday and the matter landed in Sindh High Court as millions out there are facing problems due to the disruption of a microblogging platform.
The court was moved about the disruption and Sindh High Court Chief Justice Aqeel Abbasi directed federal authorities including the PTA to restore services of social media platforms.
The SHC bench, spearheaded by chief justice summoned report from PTA for suspending internet services on election day and issued notice to federal government about the current situation.
Pakistan’s interim interior minister told an international media organisation that he was not aware of any restrictions. He mentioned having no knowledge about the outage, saying the matter doesn’t come under his ministry.
Meanwhile, caretaker information minister failed to respond to the questions regarding the Twitter ban.
Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has not shared any clarification while the body has also not responded to multiple questions on X closure but said PTA is a regulatory body which enforces orders issued by the government.
