KARACHI – Preparations for setting up the sacrificial animals market at Karachi’s Northern Bypass have entered the final phase with the issuance of contracts for the provision of services.

Muzaffar Hasan Khan of Hasan & Brothers has been awarded an administrator contract. Similarly, contracts for branding, fodder, water, electricity supply, parking, soft drink, janitorial and tents have also been awarded. The contractors have started getting work orders and sacrificial animals have started arriving at the biggest cattle market in the port city.

Muzaffar Hasan Khan, administrator of the cattle market, said that the ground has also been paved in several blocks for keeping sacrificial animals. He said the sanitation and other arrangements have been carried out through heavy machinery. He said that parking and security arrangements have also been finalised.  He noted that poles have been erected with the installation of big lights to illuminate the various blocks of the cattle market. “Security checkpoints are being set up around the market”, he said, adding that better drainage arrangements have been made keeping in mind the previous rains. He said that temporary stalls will be set up including a food court for the visiting buyers. He said that ATMs and temporary branches of major banks will also be set up every year to facilitate traders and buyers. He said that emergency medical facilities and ambulances will also be available.

Sacrificial animals must be completely healthy and conform to Shariah requirements. To ensure this, all cattle must be inspected before entering the market, while a certificate from the Veterinary Department is also required to confirm the health of the cattle.

CCTV cameras will be installed to monitor the cattle market.  Along with the police, Rangers personnel will also perform security duties in the cattle market. A team of veterinary doctors will be present along with medicines to provide immediate medical care to the sacrificed animals.
