LAHORE – Chinese Consul General Zhao Shiren met Punjab Home Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javaid Qazi during his visit to the Home Department on Monday to discuss the province’s law and order situation and review security arrangements for Chinese nationals working in Punjab.
During the meeting, the Chinese Consul General said China is engaged in major infrastructure projects across Pakistan and Chinese companies are keen to further expand investment in the country.
He appreciated the Punjab Home Department’s effective role in maintaining peace and ensuring the security of foreign nationals, particularly Chinese citizens.
As part of ongoing cooperation, Consul General Zhao Shiren handed over a bulletproof car to the Punjab Home Department, which will be used for the safe movement of Chinese investors and engineers. The Consul General and the Home Secretary also signed an agreement in this regard.
Home Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javaid Qazi said the safety of officials and workers associated with CPEC projects, as well as Chinese tourists, remains a top priority for the Punjab government.
He added that the government is providing full facilitation and protection to all Chinese citizens residing in the province.
Dr. Qazi further informed that the Punjab government has also provided a bulletproof van to FIEDMC from its own resources and has ensured foolproof security measures across all industrial zones.
“Our offices are always open for Chinese citizens and government representatives,” he said, adding that the capacity of the Special Protection Unit (SPU) is being enhanced to further strengthen Chinese nationals’ security.
He said the department is implementing federal guidelines to ensure the safe movement of Chinese nationals and expressed gratitude to China for its continued cooperation.
The Chinese Consul General also showed interest in products prepared by inmates under the Punjab prison reforms initiative.
The meeting was attended by the Chinese Deputy Consul General, Special Secretary Home, Additional Secretary Foreign National Security, Additional Secretary Internal Security, Additional Secretary Home and other senior officials.
