LAHORE – Price of poultry meat saw a back-to-back rise in Lahore and other markets of Punjab, forcing inflation-hit people to face unexpected burden.
In late April and early May, price of chicken moved down and was available at Rs400 per kg. But, within weeks, the cost of chicken moved up by Rs120-150.
In Lahore, Rawalpindi and Faisalabad, retailers are flouting government price list by selling chicken meat at much elevated prices.
As per the official rates, the price of 1kg of chicken meat is Rs438, while retailers are selling it for Rs500 to Rs550 without displaying the rates in their shops. Citizens, who are bearing hike in utility bills and other basic commodities, lamented chicken mafia tricks to manipulate prices.

Shop keepers are still charging exorbitant prices. Consumers are urging the local administration to take action against these retailers who are taking advantage of the situation and overcharging customers.
