ISLAMABAD – A sarcastic statement caused heated exchange between Awami National Party Senator Aimal Wali Khan and Pakistan Telecommunication Authority PTA Chairman in Senate Committee Meeting.

The incident occurred when ANP leader clashed with Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Chairman Maj-Gen (retd) Hafeez Ur Rehman over a controversial remark. The incident occurred during the session chaired by Senator Agha Shahzaib Durrani.

The room saw first awkward silence and what follows was outburst from KP based leader who slammed PTA chief for accusing him of smoking Charas. “How can a government official accuse me of coming here after smoking charas?” Senator Khan demanded, questioning the PTA chairman’s right to make such allegations.

PTA chairman Rehman later apologized for the remark, calling it a mistake, Senator Khan refused to let the issue slide, suggesting such comments come from those who consume drugs or alcohol. Khan demanded strict disciplinary action and insisted that either he or the PTA chairman leave the meeting.

MEanwhile, Senate Committee members and chairman condemned PTA chief’s behavior, calling it disrespectful to both the senator and the entire committee. He announced that the matter would be taken up with the Prime Minister’s office, and directed the IT secretary to document the incident.
