Chairman PARC urges sustainable research to achieve food security goals

A meeting of the Technical Advisory Committee of the Board of Directors of Agricultural Linkages Program (ALP) of PARC was held at PARC HQs, Islamabad on Wednesday. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Muhammad Azeem Khan, Chairman, PARC/ BoD of ALP. The agenda before the committee was to evaluate research proposals received under 9th batch of ALP.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the meeting was also conducted online in addition to meeting at PARC HQs. Islamabad. DG P&DD and Executive Director of ALP Dr. Muhammad Munir Ahmad briefed about the agenda of the meeting. After technical evaluation, the Committee recommended 11 research proposals for funding against the 20 research proposals presented before the Technical Advisory Committee. The recommendations are further to be evaluated/considered by the Board of Directors of ALP in its next meeting. Presiding over the meeting, Chairman PARC, Dr. Muhammad Azeem Khan welcomed the committee members and urged them to focus on sustainable research to achieve food security targets. He was also of the view that innovation in R&D in agriculture is a highly required task to prosper in sustainable development goals. Agriculture through improved productivity could play a crucial role in future economic development, food security, enhanced livelihoods, and poverty alleviation. The Chairman apprised that ALP is supporting agricultural research and development activities in Pakistan.
