Chairman Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) Muhammad Naeem has expressed deep sorrow and grief over the sad demise of H.E. Yukiya Amano, Director General of International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), who died on Monday (today).
In a press release issued by PAEC, Muhammad Naeem expressed his sentiments, “During his tenure, H.E. Amano was very supportive of Pakistan’s Technical Cooperation programme. His contribution in this regard will always be remembered. He was instrumental in spreading the message of sustainable development through the use of nuclear technology. He initiated the program ’Atoms for Peace and Development’. He took this message wherever he visited. As DG, IAEA, he visited Pakistan twice and last time in March 2018.”
Chairman PAEC further said, “H.E. Amano was a thorough professional and a gentleman. Through his death Pakistan has lost a friend and a well-wisher.” He added that services of Mr. Yukiya Amano will be remembered for a long time as the longest-serving Director General of IAEA who revitalized the international agency through his vision and diligence. —PR
