The Capital Development Authority (CDA) Board in a meeting on Thursday took decisions focusing on strengthening Islamabad’s healthcare infrastructure and improving solid waste management systems in the federal capital.
The meeting, held at CDA Headquarters under the chairmanship of CDA Chairman and Chief Commissioner Islamabad Sohail Ashraf, was attended by senior officials including Member Administration Esfandyar Baloch, Member Estate Zaman Wattoo, Member Finance and Planning & Design Muhammad Umair, Member Engineering Syed Nafasat Raza, and Vice Chancellor of Punjab University Professor Dr. Muhammad Ali. According to details, the board approved the allotment of additional land in Sector H-11/1 for the Jinnah Medical Complex (JMC) and Research Center, a move aimed at enhancing healthcare facilities and expanding research capacity in Islamabad. The decision is expected to accelerate the development of a major public sector medical institution in the capital.
In another key decision, the CDA Board approved the extension of its agreement with the Rawalpindi Waste Management Company (RWMC) for the continued use of the Losar landfill site. The arrangement ensures uninterrupted disposal of solid waste generated in Islamabad.
During the meeting, Chairman CDA Sohail Ashraf directed authorities to initiate work on establishing a modern, scientific landfill site for Islamabad. He stressed that environmental protection must remain a central consideration in the planning and development of such facilities, highlighting the need for sustainable waste management practices. The board also approved the extension of the agreement for the collection of solid waste from Islamabad’s Waste Transfer Station and its transportation to the Losar dumping site managed by RWMC.
