The bride and groom were among eight killed when part of a wedding house in Islamabad’s G-7/2 Sector collapsed following a powerful gas cylinder blast late Saturday night.
Rescue teams rushed to the spot and launched operations, pulling out the injured and recovering bodies from the rubble of the house in Aabpara, 66 Quarters, Street 23 in the Christian Colony.
Police confirmed on Sunday that at least 11 people were injured in the tragic incident, some of them in critical condition. They stated that the cylinder exploded at around 2 am, trapping wedding guests under the rubble.
Besides the wedding house, four nearby houses were also affected. Police stated that the roofs of three neighbouring houses also collapsed, injuring people inside.
Rescue teams remained on the ground, checking collapsed roofs for people trapped beneath.
District Administration and Police high-ups and Capital Development Authority (CDA) teams monitored the rescue operations.
DIG Muhammad Jawad Tariq also reached the scene and was directly overseeing the ongoing rescue operation, with senior Islamabad police officers also on the ground. “Citizens should cooperate with the rescue teams,” he said.

Police stated that the area was completely cordoned off as a security measure and the injured were being provided immediate medical assistance. Further investigation into the incident was underway, the police said.
