Islamabad experienced the coldest day of this winter season as the mercury dropped to the freezing point (0°C) on Sunday.
Cold and dry weather prevailed in most parts of Pakistan with moderate to dense fog blanketing the plains of Punjab, upper Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), continental air prevails over most parts of Pakistan. A shallow westerly wave will likely approach the western and upper parts tonight, which will persist till Monday.
Under these conditions, mainly cold and dry weather is expected in the twin cities and most parts of Pakistan on Sunday evening and night, as well as during the next two days. Freezing weather is expected in hilly areas.
Partly cloudy weather is expected in the upper parts with chances of light rain/light snow in Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and adjoining areas. Moderate to dense fog will likely persist in the plains of Punjab, upper Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Islamabad’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 0°C and 02°C on Monday and Tuesday.
Rawalpindi’s minimum temperature will likely remain between 03°C and 05°C on Monday and Tuesday.
Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in the twin cities and most parts of the country during the last 24 hours. Freezing weather prevailed in hilly areas. Frost occurred in Islamabad, the Potohar region and Kashmir. Smog/fog persisted in the plains of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and upper Sindh.
Skardu remained the coldest place in the country, where the temperature dropped 14°C below the freezing point. Minimum temperature in Leh was recorded at -13°C, in Astore at -11°C, in Gupis at -09°C, in Gilgit at -08°C, in Ziarat and Kalat at -07°C, in Hunza and Kalam at -06°C, and in Parachinar and Rawlakot at -04°C.
In Islamabad, the minimum temperature was recorded at 0°C (Freezing point). Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 91 per cent.
In Rawalpindi, the minimum temperature was recorded at 03°C. Relative humidity in the morning was recorded at 84 per cent.
