Bolan Mail Khushhal Khan Khattak Express Among 8 Trains Suspended Amid Fuel Crisis

ISLAMABAD – Pakistan Railways temporarily suspended eight key passenger trains across the country amid a shocking fuel price surge and a sharp decline in passengers.

Trains have been taken off the tracks until further notice, as authorities struggle to manage rapidly increasing operational expenses. The decision has raised concerns among daily commuters and long-distance travelers who rely heavily on rail services for affordable transport.

The suspended trains include some of the most well-known routes in the country.

  • Bolan Mail
  • Khushhal Khan Khattak Express
  • Mehran Express
  • Chaman Passenger
  • Marvi Express
  • Saman Sarkar Express
  • Moin Jo Daro Express
  • Ravi Express

A spokesperson for Pakistan Railways confirmed that the suspension is strictly temporary, emphasizing that the step was unavoidable due to surging fuel costs and mounting operational losses. They added that services will be restored once financial and operational conditions improve.

The sudden halt has sparked concern among passengers and raised fresh questions about the sustainability of public transport services under ongoing economic pressure.

Oil Crisis

A dramatic surge in global oil prices is shaking economies worldwide after escalating conflict in the Middle East disrupted key energy routes, including the critical Strait of Hormuz, through which significant share of the world’s oil and gas flows.

The disruption has triggered panic across global markets, driving up fuel costs, fueling inflation, and deepening uncertainty in financial systems. Gulf countries are facing immediate pressure, with trade routes strained and basic goods becoming more expensive due to supply chain disruptions.

Major Asian economies including China, India, Japan, and Pakistan are facing rising energy bills and growing economic strain.

Pakistan, in particular, is experiencing a sharp fuel price shock, with petrol and diesel costs surging to record levels. The spike is feeding into higher transport fares, rising production costs, and accelerating inflation, putting additional pressure on an already fragile economy under IMF conditions.

Industries such as textiles, agriculture, and manufacturing are feeling the squeeze as energy-dependent production becomes more expensive, weakening export competitiveness and slowing industrial growth.
