KARACHI – The largest and brightest moon of 2025 will illuminate the skies on Wednesday night (tonight), visible across Pakistan after sunset.
The astronomical experts said that this would be the year’s biggest supermoon, appearing larger and brighter than usual as it reaches its closest point to Earth.
When the Moon comes closest to Earth in its orbit, it appears bigger and more radiant — a phenomenon known as a supermoon. The previous supermoon of the year was observed worldwide, including in Pakistan, on October 7.
On November 5, the Moon would be at a distance of approximately 356,980 kilometers from Earth, making it appear about 7.9% larger and 16% brighter than usual.
Astronomers note that three to four supermoons occur every year. The event is particularly mesmerizing when the Moon is near the horizon, appearing even larger due to an optical illusion caused by its comparison with surrounding objects such as trees and buildings.
Experts recommend viewing the supermoon within the first hour after it rises, when it appears at its most striking. The last supermoon of 2025 is expected to be visible on December 5.
