Pak Sarzameen Party Chairman Syed Mustafa Kamal on Monday said that the PPP chants slogan against the division of Sindh to serve its political design and to prolong its provincial government, while practically it has divided Karachi, the provincial capital, and economic lifeline of the country into six parts. As Sindh’s division is unacceptable, likewise the fragmentation of Karachi is also unacceptable. Since PPP is unable to bag votes from Karachi, that’s why PPP led provincial government for the occupation of Karachi has divided the city into six districts. Instead of devolving power and resources to the lowest level, the PPP-led biased provincial government has withheld them, in a sheer violation of article 140-A of the constitution. Karachi has always been one district and administratively under which there were 18 towns with a Mayor. 18 towns under one mayor were the best example of decentralization and this is the way Karachi should remain as one district. In order to seize power and resources, the PPP has divided district karachi into six districts and made six mayors in one city, which has not only ruined the city’s integrated system but also made Karachi unmanageable. “We do not accept the partition of Karachi.” While talking about cleaning of drains by NDMA, PSP supremo said that there is no doubt about the good intentions of the Prime Minister Imran Khan to deploy NDMA for cleanup of Karachi drains, however Kamal called for a permanent way out instead of temporary and short-term solutions. The work of cleaning drains is a continuous work which is done throughout the year, cleaning drains once would not give any relief to Karachites. The situation would return back to pathetic in few days. There are thousands of employees and permanent machinery present that are needs to be activated in a better way. Karachi generates 12,000 tons of garbage daily. Unless the local government system is functioning properly, NDMA will not be able to lift 12,000 tons of garbage daily for an year. If any clean-up operation is carried out throughout the year, the situation will return to normal in a few days.
