KARACHI – Pakistanis are excited to ring in New Year with massive celebrations planned across the country. New Year’s Eve approaches, Karachi police have gone on high alert, announcing strict zero-tolerance policy against aerial firing and warning that anyone involved in celebratory gunfire will be arrested without exception.
Authorities revealed that District Central police rolled out sweeping security measures to protect lives during the festivities. Law enforcement agencies will deploy drone cameras across the entire district to keep a constant watch and identify offenders in real time.
Karachi Police confirmed that drone surveillance will operate within jurisdictions of all police stations in District Central, with recorded footage serving as key evidence for arrests and legal proceedings. Officials made it clear that there will be no leniency for individuals firing shots from rooftops or public places.
The crackdown police said is aimed at preventing tragic loss of life, enforcing the rule of law, and sending a strong message about public safety as the city rings in the New Year.
Every year in Pakistan, aerial or celebratory firing during events like New Year’s Eve leads to serious injuries and occasional deaths. In Karachi alone, dozens of people are often injured by stray bullets during New Year celebrations, including women, children, and teenagers.
On New Year’s Eve 2025, around 26–29 people were wounded, while in past years, there have been reports of children killed during such celebrations. Despite police crackdowns and legal bans, the practice continues due to cultural traditions and easy access to firearms.
