As a result of the rise in explosions in Kabul, the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) asked the Islamic Emirate to provide security for Kabul citizens during the days of the Ashura Ritual.
On Twitter, UNAMA said that the recent explosions in Kabul resulted in more than 120 deaths and injuries.
“Following the Islamic State-claimed blasts in Kabul in recent days that killed and injured more than 120 people, the UN family in Afghanistan urges greater security for minorities so that Ashura can be marked without further attacks,” UNAMA tweeted.
The UNAMA response comes after a bus in Kabul was hit by a landmine on Sunday in the most recent incident. Witnesses to the incident report that at least three people were killed and over 10 civilians were injured.
“We went there and picked up the wounded, at first, I saw a woman with a child fall on the ground,” said Abdul Khaliq Wakili, director of the Qala-e-Hazaraha hospital of Chendawel.
Meanwhile, some Ashura mourners are concerned about the increase in blasts in Kabul city.
“Compared to past years, fifty percent of mourning rituals have been affected,” Abdul Aziz, a resident of Kabul, told TOLOnews.
“It is the responsibility of the Islamic Emirate to ensure the security of the people,” another resident of Kabul told TOLOnews.
The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned the recent events, especially Friday’s explosion in Kabul.
“The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) condemned in the strongest terms the bomb attack on Friday 5th August 2022 in the Sar-e-Kariz area in the 6th security district of the Afghan capital,” the OIC said in a statement.
According to security officials’ figures, six explosions happened in Kabul over the course of the last six days, resulting in the death of 14 people and injuries to more than 40 others.
Many citizens of Kabul’s sixth security district voiced their concerns about the rise in explosive attacks in the city’s western areas and asked that the Islamic Emirate ensure security for the Ashura ritual.
According to the residents of PD6, most of the victims of Saturday’s explosion vendors selling their wares.
“Explosions happen every day, and the level of insecurity has increased. We ask the Islamic Emirate to provide safety to the mourners of Ashura,” said Mohammad Ali, a resident of the Barchi area of Kabul.
“There was a mine planted inside the barrel that exploded, killing seven people and injuring nine to ten people,” said Sakhi, another resident of Kabul’s PD6.
The residents of the Pol-e-Sukhta area of Kabul said that some of the victims of the incident could not be identified.
“All of them were men and youth, and they were at the mourning ceremony, and it was very crowded,” said Mohammad Jafar, a resident of the Pol-e-Sukhta area of Kabul.
“There were pieces of flesh, limbs, legs, and organs. There was just one pocket remaining, and the municipality did not take responsibility for burying them. We gathered four or five individuals, took them, and buried them there,” said Fawad, another resident of Pol-e-Sukhta area of Kabul.
A TOLOnews reporter who visited the explosion scene in Kabul’s Pol-e-Sukhta area said that the explosives were put in a pot on the side of the road.
Officials of Kabul’s PD6 said that they have arrested two people for being connected to yesterday’s attack in the Pol-e-Shukhta area of Kabul.
“So far, we have arrested two Daesh affiliates in connection with the blast and we are trying to arrest the rest of them,” said Mawlawi Waqad, head of the Intelligence department of Kabul’s PD6.
In the past week, three explosions occurred in Kabul. Based on the figures of the security officials, fourteen people died and more than 40 others were injured in the blasts.
