21-day Awami Theatre Festival, organized by the Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi, is in full swing. On the 15th day of the festival, the play “Yeh Nahi Bataunga” was staged, written by Zakir Mastana and directed by Parvez Siddiqui. The talented cast included Parvez Siddiqui, Zakir Mastana, Saleem Sheikh, Shahni Azim, Mehak Noor, Shanze Varda, Sapna Ghazal, Akram Sono, Tariq Guddu, Shahbaz Sanam, Talha Bhojani, and Junaid Memon. The play tells the story of a family patriarch who spends his entire life working abroad, ensuring his family’s every need is met. However, when he faces a severe health crisis—alleging kidney failure—he finds himself abandoned by his loved ones.
Despite his relentless efforts to support his family over the years, they coldly suggest he manage with his deteriorating health. Unbeknownst to them, the patriarch had orchestrated this scenario with the help of a doctor to test the loyalty and compassion of his family. When the truth emerges, family members are left ashamed and seek forgiveness. The play delivers a powerful message about human selfishness and highlights the sacrifices made by family heads to keep households running.
It also underscores the unfortunate reality of how, in times of adversity, even close relationships can falter. The audience lauded the thought-provoking storyline and stellar performances, further cementing the festival’s success.
