TEHRAN – Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said that a proposed memorandum of understanding (MoU) has not yet been signed and remains subject to changes.
Speaking to Iranian media, he stated that the document is expected to contain 14 points and that its full details will be made public once it is finalized.
Araghchi said that nuclear-related issues have been postponed to later stages of the process. He added that certain nuclear demands from the United States are not acceptable to Iran at the current stage.
The foreign minister also emphasized Iran’s continued support for Hezbollah in Lebanon, saying Tehran would not leave the group isolated. He added that any future agreement would include provisions aimed at ending conflict on all fronts, including Lebanon.
Araghchi described Iran as having emerged stronger following its conflict with the United States and claimed that Iran had prevailed in the confrontation. He said that an announcement regarding the end of hostilities would cover all fronts, including Lebanon, under a temporary agreement framework.
According to Araghchi, the lifting of US restrictions and the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz would form part of an interim arrangement. He also stated that threats against Iran should cease and argued that Iran would not yield to pressure. He claimed that Israel opposes any agreement between Iran and the United States.
Discussing Lebanon, Araghchi said that ending the conflict there would require Israel’s withdrawal from occupied areas.
He described the interim agreement as a first step and said that nuclear negotiations would not proceed if the arrangement is not implemented.
On the Strait of Hormuz, Araghchi said management of the waterway would not return to pre-war conditions. He added that Iran would ensure safe passage for vessels while maintaining that sovereignty over the strait belongs to Iran and Oman. He also stated that reducing uranium material to lower enrichment levels is the only solution for Iran’s stockpiles.
Separately, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said reports suggesting an agreement is close are not new, adding that the main challenge remains contradictory statements from the other side. He noted that discussions among Iranian decision-making bodies regarding the memorandum are ongoing and said he could not confirm any details that have been published about the proposed document.
Baghaei also stated that he could not comment on the timing or location of any signing before a final decision is made by Iran’s leadership. However, he said that agreements have been reached on most issues under discussion and that internal consultations are in their final stage before a concluding decision is made.
Peace Has Never Been This Close As It Is Now
Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in a post on X, announced that the US and Iran have agreed to the text of the peace.
“Amid ongoing intense mediation efforts by Pakistan, we are fully aware of incessant misinformation campaign being waged by those who want to sabotage the peace deal. Setting aside the noise, we can confirm that a final, agreed upon text of the peace deal has been reached and Pakistan is now working closely with both sides to finalize the next steps. Peace has never been this close as it is now,” read the post.
