In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference has expressed grave concern over the plight of illegally detained Hurriyat leaders and activists languishing in hell-like jails of the territory and India.

The APHC spokesman in a statement issued in Srinagar deplored that despite the deteriorating health conditions of the incarcerated leaders and activists, the fascist jail authorities have turned a deaf ears to the genuine demands of the prisoners to provide them medical treatment and other basic amenities as per jail manual. He said that in view of the multiple ailments, unhygienic food and jail envi-ronment, the lives of the inmates have become vul-nerable to the dangerous diseases like Covid-19.

The spokesman strongly condemned the denial of the basic amenities including medical facilities to the illegally incarcerated Hurriyat leaders and activ-ists and termed it a brazen violation of the prisoners’ rights as guaranteed by the Human Rights Charter. He lashed out at the inhuman treatment meted out to the Hurriyat leaders and activists and said that the Indian jails had been converted into death cells and worst interrogation centres for the Kashmiri detain-ees. These prisoners are treated as criminals and bonded labourers in the jails and subjected to physi-cal and mental torture, he said.

The APHC spokesman urged the United Nations Human Rights Council, Amnesty International, Human Rights Watch, International Committee of Red Cross and other human rights organisations to take cognizance of the plight of illegally detained leaders and activists lodged in different jails of India and IIOJK. He said that the APHC Chairman Ma-sarrat Aalam Butt, Vice Chairman Shabbir Ahmad Shah, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Aasiya Andrabi, Dr Muhammad Qasim Fakhtoo, Fehmeeda Sofi, Na-heeda Nasreen, Dr Muhammad Shafi Shariaty, Dr Ghulam Muhammad Butt, Ameer Hamza, Muham-mad Yousaf Mir, Muhammad Yousaf Falahi, Ayaz Akbar, Altaf Ahmed Shah, Pir Saifullah, Raja Mera-juddin Kalwal, Nayeem Ahmad Khan, Farooq Ahmad Dar, Shahidul Islam, Syed Shakeel Yousaf, Syed Shahid Yousaf, Zahoor Watali, Muzaffar Ahmad Dar, Maqsood Ahmad Butt, Nazir Ahmad Sheikh, Hakim Shokat, Molvi Nasir, Gazanfer Iqbal, Nazir Pathan, Tariq Pandit, Basir Ahmad, Shokat Ahmad Khan, Muhammad Ayoub Mir, Mu-hammad Ayoub Dar, Aadil Zargar, Assadullah Par-ray, Merajuddin Nanda, Zahoor Ahmed Butt, Raashid Sehrai, Mujahid Sehrai and others are suf-fering from multiple ailments and most of them have been languishing in different jails for years together, without the basic facilities as recom-mended by the jail manual.

The spokesman paying rich tributes to the stead-fastness and strong commitment displayed by all the Kashmiri prisoners said the Indian jail authorities have failed to break the will of these heroes of Kashmir freedom movement. He urged the United Nations Secretary General to take serious cogni-zance of the deteriorating health conditions of the illegally incarcerated leaders and activists and im-press upon India to allow the teams of human rights bodies to visit the jails and take stock of the plight of the prisoners.

The APHC spokesman also demanded early solution to the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the United Nations Security Council resolutions for which people of Jammu and Kashmir have rendered exemplary sacrifices since the illegal occupation by India in 1947.—KMS
