Based on the data of the presence of poliovirus in different districts of Khyber Pakhtunk-hwa, a five-day special polio campaign started in seven districts of the province on Monday. The campaign will be conducted in Nowshera, Pe-shawar, Mohmand, Hangu, Khyber, Kohat and Charsadda districts. Over 2.212 million children will be administered polio drops, said an official of the health depart-ment.

Similarly, 107,000 children will be administered polio drops in the Afghan refu-gee camps of Buner, Chitral, Dir, Haripur, Manse-hra, Malakand, Mar-dan and Swabi and in the special union councils located on the Pak-Afghan border, the official said. 8441 teams have been formed for the 5-day cam-paign, including mobile, fixed and transit teams while 14,926 police personnel have been deployed for the security of polio workers.

Meanwhile more than 37,000 children up to 5 years old will be administered anti-polio drops during the week-long campaign, started here on Monday, tar-geting only the high-risk areas in Hyderabad. The acting District Health Office Dr Imdad Channa in-formed that 147 mobile teams headed by 10 doc-tors and 34 area in-charges would carry out the drive.

According to him, during the previous campaign around 9,000 children could not be administered anti-polio drops. He said the drive was started after the polio virus was found in an environmental sam-ple taken from Karachi.
