In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Anjuman Auqaf of Jamia Masjid Srinagar has expressed deep sorrow over the fact that it has been three years of illegal and arbitrary detention of its President, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, which is a cause of great anxiety and worry for the people of Kashmir.

Anjuman Auqaf in a statement issued in Srinagar called for the immediate release of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq in view of the beginning of Muharram-ul-Haram and the blessed days of Ashura.

It said that the authorities should remove the restrictions imposed on him so that he could fulfill his official responsibilities towards the people and society.

Meanwhile, on behalf of the organisation and its incarcerated President Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who continues to be under house arrest for the last three years, has extended heartfelt greetings to the Muslim Ummah, in general, and the Muslims of IIOJK, in particular, on the arrival of the new Islamic year – 1444 AH.

It said, “Every new year provides us with an opportunity to go for self-introspection and reflect upon what is happening around us and as such, we need to learn lessons from our past and strive for the betterment of our present and future.”

“We must also submit ourselves completely to the will of Allah (SWT), strengthen our bond with our Creator – Allah (SWT) – and deepen our love and devotion with our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) so that we as Ummah are able to discharge our religious and milli responsibilities in a much better way,” it added.

Anjuman Auqaf also expressed hope that the new Islamic year will bring happiness, progress and prosperity for the people of Kashmir.—KMS
