The decision came after approval of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and the Establishment Division issued an official notification confirming the change. Aamir Hayat will serve as the interim CEO of PIA until a permanent appointment is made.
Amir Hayat will be tasked with overseeing the operations of national flag carrier during this transitional period.
He gets a role as Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) will resume flights to Europe in January, starting with Paris, after EU lifted a ban imposed in 2020 due to safety concerns. The first flight, operated by a Boeing 777, is scheduled for January 10, with bookings opening on December 9.
PIA also plans to seek approval from the UK to restart flights to London, Manchester, and Birmingham. The ban caused PIA a revenue loss of around Rs40 billion annually. Despite holding 23pc of Pakistan’s domestic market, PIA faces tough competition from Middle Eastern carriers.
