ISLAMABAD – The Adiala Jail superintendent has submitted a detailed response to the Islamabad High Court (IHC) regarding the petition seeking the suspension of PTI founder Imran Khan’s X (formerly Twitter) account, stating that the account is not being operated from inside the prison.
The jail authorities said that the perception that Imran Khan is managing or directing posts from his jail cell is “incorrect and baseless.”
In his written reply, the superintendent clarified that the PTI founder is under strict surveillance, making the presence or use of any prohibited item — including a mobile phone — impossible.
The reply submitted before the IHC further states that no banned item, particularly mobile phones, is allowed under jail rules. Mobile signal jammers are installed inside Adiala Jail, completely blocking mobile signals within and around the facility.
The superintendent added that Imran Khan and the staff assigned to him undergo regular searches, ensuring that he has no access to prohibited communication tools. He noted that under Jail Rule 265, the PTI founder is barred from engaging in political conversation, although family members and lawyers sometimes violate these restrictions during meetings, particularly when court proceedings are held inside the jail.
The official maintained that in the past, political instructions allegedly issued by Imran Khan from jail had contributed to unrest, but insisted that his current X account is not being operated from within the prison.
He stated that the account is being managed from outside, as no mobile phones or internet services exist inside Adiala Jail. Imran Khan, he added, only has access to facilities permitted strictly under jail rules or court orders.
