Ismat Siddiqui, the mother of Dr Aafia Siddiqui and Dr Fowzia Siddiqui was laid to rest in local graveyard. The funeral prayer was attended by a large number of people belonging to different walks of life.
Ismat Siddiqui passed away after a protracted illness on night between Friday and Saturday. She was born in Buland Shehr, UP, India on August 15, 1939. Her father died when she was a child and her maternal grandfather raised her.
He gave a lot of attention on her education. After the creation of Pakistan she migrated to Karachi and after graduation from Sir Syed Girls College married to Dr Saleh Muhammad Siddiqui. She left behind a son, Muhammad Ali and two daughters, Dr Fowzia Siddiqui and Dr Aafia Siddiqui. Her family had taken an active part in the Pakistan Movement.Ismat Siddiqui spend two painful decades waiting for her daughter, Dr Aafia Siddiqui, whose is detained in a US prison. Her last wish was to see her innocence daughter but due to the apathy of rulers it could not be fulfilled.
Last year, Dr Aafia had a letter to her and handed it to the Consul General but the Pakistani Foreign Office did not deliver it to Ismat Siddiqui, which greatly saddened her. She would often say that the main reason of her illness was not cruelty meted out to Aafia but the indifferent behavior of the Pakistani rulers. A spokesman of Aafia Movement Pakistan Muhammad Ayub said that Ismat Siddiqui left this world without justice being doled out to her and now the Pakistani rulers shouldn’t now wait for the verdict of Allah, the Almighty.
Govt lifts ban on closure of markets at 9pmSindh government on Sunday lifted the restrictions related to the early closure of markets in the province ahead of Eidul Adha.
“The restriction to shut markets and bazaars till 9pm has been ended till July 10,” said the notification issued by the Sindh home department.Shops, markets, and commercial areas can now remain open even after 9pm till July 10.
