In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, the All Parties Hurriyat Conference, has welcomed the renaming of Kashmir Highway as Srinagar Highway by the government of Pakistan.
The APHC General Secretary, Molvi Bashir Ahmed, in a media interview in Srinagar said that such moves showed Pakistan’s commitment to the cause of liberating the occupied territory from Indian subjugation.
He also appreciated the efforts of Pakistan government particularly Prime minister Imran Khan for highlighting the Indian brutalities on the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. He said that due to Pakistan’s forceful diplomatic campaign, the Kashmir dispute had become a focal point of world attention.
Meanwhile, the APHC spokesman in a statement in Srinagar paying homage to martyred senior Hurriyat leader, Sheikh Abdul Aziz, called for a complete strike on his martyrdom anniversary on August 11.
Sheikh Abdul Aziz was shot dead by Indian troops while he was leading a procession from Srinagar to the Line of Control on August 11, 2008 against the economic blockade of the Kashmir Valley by Hindu extremists of Jammu.
The APHC spokesman asked the people of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir to observe complete shutdown on August 11 to express solidarity with the family members of Sheikh Abdul Aziz and other Kashmiri martyrs. He said the observance of strike is aimed at sending a message to India that the mission of Kashmiri martyrs would be taken to its logical conclusion at all costs.
The spokesman expressed grave concern over the shifting of Kashmiri political prisoners from Srinagar central jail to jails in Jammu region and demanded immediate release of all illegally detained Kashmiris. He said India cannot suppress the Kashmiris’ freedom movement through killings, arrests and other brutal actions and they would continue their struggle till they achieved their right to self-determination.
He urged New Delhi to stop its military aggression and stubbornness on the Kashmir dispute and adopt a pragmatic approach to resolve it in accordance with the Kashmiris’ aspirations and the UN resolutions.—KMS
