STAFF REPORTER KARACHI The first meeting of the Central Standing Committee on Urban Development of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) 2020 concluded that holistic, inclusive and planned urbandevelopment of major Pakistani cities is a crucial prerequisite for GDP growth in Pakistan. The meeting which was presided by Vice President FPCCI Sheikh Sultan Rehman and convened by prominent businessmen Obaid Saleem Patel, had a distinguished and renowned member list including leading environmentalist and Prime Minister Task force member Vice Admiral (R) Syed Arifullah Husseini, Former Vice President Institute of Architects Pakistan Mumtaz Jeelani, Former Vice Chairman ABAD Kareem Adhia, Leading Architect Subia Wyne, Member Governing Body Pakistan Engineering Council M.Idris, Owner Kings Group Owais Thanvi, Humayun Saleem, Askari Agha, Mehmood Pasha, leading land developers, educationists and representatives from power and energy companies. Convener of the urban development committee FPCCI, Obaid Saleem Patel pointed out that by 2025, half of Pakistan’s population is predicted to be living in cities and this steeply rising urbanization trend in Pakistan will increase pressure upon the already fragile state of affairs of Pakistani cities.
