Srinagar

In occupied Kashmir, Hurriyat leader and the Chairman of Islamic Political Party, Muhammad Yousuf Naqash, while hailing the statement of UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres in which he expressed concern over the killing and detention of children in Kashmir has said that freedom of speech and peaceful gathering is not allowed in the besieged territory.
Muhammad Yousuf Naqash in a statement issued in Srinagar said that the UN Chief’s assertion should serve an eye-opener for the international community and added that it was self-explanatory and a document on brutalities perpetrated by Indian forces in occupied Kashmir.
Expressing deep concern over media gag, Yousuf Naqash said it looks as if undeclared emergency has been imposed in the entire territory, saying that even journalists are booked under draconian and infamous law, Public Safety Act.
Referring to recent media directives by the Indian administration, the Hurriyat leader said that this was unethical, immoral and undemocratic adding that draconian laws were being used to intimidate the media fraternity in occupied Kashmir.
He stressed the need for a peaceful solution of the Kashmir dispute as per the relevant UN resolutions and appealed to the UN Secretary General to take impressive measures in this direction.—KMS
