The Lahore Chamber of Commerce and Industry Monday urged the government to take immediate measures to restore supply of petroleum product as the shortage is not only causing undue damage to the trade, industry & economic activities but is also hitting the general public hard.
While talking to a delegation led by LCCI former executive committee member Mudassar Masood Chaudhry, LCCI President Irfan Iqbal Sheikh said that fuel shortage has brought the vehicular traffic to a grinding halt.
Irfan Iqbal Sheikh said that businessmen are facing loss of billions rupees daily as movement of their finished goods and raw material is almost suspended due to non-availability of fuel but concerned departments are playing role of silent spectators and advising people to stay calm and wait for POL supply.
He said that POL shortage has badly affected the daily wagers besides hitting the agriculture sector hard as high speed diesel is being used in the agriculture machinery and tub-wells. He said that process of cultivation and irrigation through diesel-operated tube-wells is about to be stopped.
He said that ongoing fuel shortage has already caused heavy damage to the business activities which are already suffering due to coronavirus therefore government should control the situation as soon as possible and take measures on war footing to restore fuel supply.
Mudassar Masood Chaudhry informed the LCCI President that dealers have no stocks of POL due to suspension of supply and are also facing the anger of people. He said that the situation would be more severe if supply of POL is not restored immediately.
