The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has signed separate Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with the University of Lahore (UOL) and the University of Sargodha (UOS) to promote research, innovation and technology-based product development under the Chief Minister’s Initiative, Makerspace Punjab.
The agreement with UOL was signed by PITB Director Skills Development Ahmad Islam Syan and UOL Director Strategy and Internationalization and Director Innovation Hub Dr Amjad Pervez. Manager Innovation Hub Fakhar Abbas Sherazi and members of the Makerspace Punjab team attended the ceremony.
The MoU with UOS was signed by PITB Director General e-Governance Sajid Latif and Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Tasawar Hayat, in the presence of Ahmad Islam Syan and the Makerspace Punjab team.
Under the partnerships, students, researchers and faculty members will have access to specialised laboratories, technical guidance, training and prototyping facilities.
The agreements also aim to promote collaborative research, entrepreneurship and knowledge sharing, while connecting academic research with practical industrial applications.
Makerspace Punjab, a provincial government initiative implemented by PITB, seeks to strengthen Pakistan’s hardware innovation ecosystem by providing advanced facilities for product designing, prototyping, testing and indigenous product development.
PITB Chairman Faisal Yousaf said the partnerships with leading universities would strengthen cooperation between academia and industry, helping students and researchers turn innovative ideas into practical, market-ready products.
He added that Makerspace Punjab demonstrated the government’s commitment to promoting indigenous innovation and developing a sustainable technology ecosystem.
