HEC declares viral notification on engineering degree equivalence fake

Hec Declares Viral Notification On Engineering Degree Equivalence Fake

ISLAMABAD – The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has declared a notification circulating on social media regarding the equivalence of engineering degrees and diplomas as fake, clarifying that the document was not issued by the commission.

In a clarification, HEC said the notification, dated October 29, 2026, contained misleading information about the equivalence of Bachelor of Technology (Hons) in Engineering and BSc Engineering Technology (Hons) degrees with Bachelor of Engineering (BE) and BSc Engineering degrees.

The circulating document also claimed that a Diploma of Associate Engineer (DAE) was equivalent to 14 years of education in engineering in the relevant discipline. It further suggested that DAE holders could secure lateral admission to BE, BSc Engineering, and BSc Engineering Technology (Hons) programmes, subject to universities’ admission criteria.

The fake notification claimed that these decisions had been made during the 10th meeting of HEC’s Accreditation and Equivalence Committee, reportedly held on October 27, 2026.

However, HEC categorically denied issuing the notification and cautioned the public against relying on or sharing the misleading document.

The commission advised students, graduates, the general public and other relevant stakeholders to verify information through its official website and verified social media platforms to avoid misinformation.
