KOHAT – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has allotted 104 rooms in the Civil Secretariat-II Complex, formerly known as the FATA Secretariat, on Warsak Road in Peshawar for the establishment of the Area Development Secretariat (ADS). Several government departments have been directed to relocate to alternative premises by October 30.
The move comes amid the imposition of governor’s rule in the province and the declaration of an emergency in 12 designated districts, including eight tribal districts and four settled districts. The newly established ADS is intended to serve the administrative needs of these areas, with Additional Chief Secretary Yahya Akhunzada, a Grade-20 officer, serving as its administrator.
The complex, which previously served as the Governor’s Secretariat and later as the FATA Secretariat, was renamed Civil Secretariat-II following the merger of the former Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in May 2018.
According to an order issued by the provincial Administration Department, office space in Administration Blocks I and II of the complex will be vacated by relocating several government departments to alternative buildings.
Under the order, the Information Department, which currently occupies 18 rooms, and the Directorate General of Information and Public Relations, which occupies 39 rooms, will be shifted to the Attached Departments Complex at Tarnab on GT Road in Peshawar. These offices will move into premises being vacated by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Highways Authority, freeing up 57 rooms for the ADS.
Similarly, the Directorate General of Health Services, which occupies 19 rooms, will be relocated to a 20-room facility in the Education Block of Civil Secretariat-II currently allotted to the Housing Department. This arrangement will make another 19 rooms available for the new secretariat.
The Director of Livestock (Merged Areas) has also been directed to vacate the department’s 28-room building and relocate the offices to its own directorate at Chargano Chowk in Peshawar. The Department of Mines and Mineral Development will subsequently move into the vacated premises, freeing up a further 28 rooms for the ADS.
These successive relocations will provide a total of 104 rooms for the Area Development Secretariat. The order directs all departments concerned to complete the relocation process by October 30, 2026.
