Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced plans to begin distributing electric bikes to students under Phase 2 of the Punjab E-Bike Scheme 2026.
The initiative aims to provide electric bikes to students and young people across all 36 districts of Punjab, with more than 125,000 bikes planned under the scheme.
The application deadline for Phase 2 was October 4, 2026. The scheme reportedly received more than 1.3 million registrations and over 600,000 applications, reflecting substantial interest among students.
Affordable Financing for Students
Under the scheme, eligible students will not be required to make a down payment. The bikes will be offered through a three-year financing plan with zero interest, while monthly installments are expected to be approximately Rs 3,000.
The Punjab government will provide a capital subsidy of Rs 90,000 per bike. It will also cover insurance, registration and token tax expenses to help reduce the financial burden on students.
Electric Bike Specifications
The electric bikes included in the scheme are equipped with a 72V 30Ah lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery and a 1,000-watt motor. The bikes have an estimated top speed of 50 to 55 kilometres per hour.
Students enrolled in both public and private educational institutions are eligible to apply, provided they meet the scheme’s requirements.
